ELEMENTARY MUSIC

The Knights Musician’s studio welcomes Prekindergarten through 4th grade students to explore music through singing, listening, media and instruments.  Our goal is to introduce students to a wide variety of musical experiences that will lay a strong foundation for their developing musicianship.  Each class incorporates either classical or traditional worship into our basic vocal training and introductory music notation.  We explore music through lots of different instruments.  From shakers, sticks and gathering drums, to chimes, Boomwhackers, recorders, pianos and guitars.  A classical spin meets whimsical stories as many composers and musical styles are introduced and explored...there’s something to pique the interest of every mini-knight that comes to explore the fascinating world of music.

5-12

BAND

Our instrumental department has many wonderful opportunities beginning at the 5th grade level. Middle school students have the opportunity to audition and attend middle school band events, such as the Northwestern Music Festival, Middle School All-State Band and Jazz band, and the Holgate BandMasters contest. High school band students may also audition and attend regional and state events such as All-State Band, All-State Jazz Band, and Region IV contest. Band students are exposed to a wide variety of band settings, including marching band, jazz band, pep band, and concert band, and also have the opportunity to audition for Chamber Band, where students expand on their musical ability, as well as their awareness to play together as an ensemble!

WORSHIP TEAM

Worship class is a unique course that is offered at Aberdeen Christian School. The purpose of this class is to raise up worship leaders from within our walls to one day send them out into the world with knowledge and experience in both leading a worship team and being a member of a worship team. Students in worship class are encouraged to take both leadership and follower roles throughout the year. They are also encouraged to study all of the aspects of running a worship team, including but not limited to sound systems, sound equipment, worship technology, and choosing worship sets. We also spend time discussing what it means to be a worship leader, what scripture tells us about those in leadership, and we encourage one another through prayer, devotionals, and encouragements. This course offers an opportunity for musicians to be leaders and explore their love of music through worship.

5-12

VOCAL

The vocal music department provides a variety of musical experiences for 5-12th grade students. Students are not only exposed to choral music, but also learn about music history and explore many musical genres. Middle school vocal students have the opportunity to attend the Northwestern Music Festival. The 7-12th grade vocal students have the opportunity to audition for All-State Chorus and also attend the Region IV music contest.  The 10-11th grade vocal students have the additional opportunity to audition for SD Honor Choir. One of the highlights each year is when ACS musicians are given the opportunity to share their musical gifts with the elderly in our community during the holidays and again in the spring.
